About

Friday Night Lights is the third official mixtape by J. Cole, released on November 12, 2010. It was originally intended to be titled *Villematic* and feature J. Cole's previously leaked tracks and freestyles, but he later decided to include original material. Upon release, the mixtape quickly became a trending topic on Google and Twitter. Many of the songs were initially considered for his debut album. In 2013, J. Cole announced that he would re-release *The Warm Up* and *Friday Night Lights* for retail sale. The mixtape was eventually re-released onto streaming platforms on November 27, 2024, accompanying the fifth episode release of Cole's audio podcast series *Inevitable*, which focused on this mixtape. The streaming release omits the bonus track "Looking for Trouble". *Friday Night Lights* is almost entirely self-produced. The mixtape features contributions from Wale, Omen, and Drake. The project thematically builds upon his previous mixtape, *The Warm Up*, and delves into his come-up, struggles, ideas, morals, and memories.

The mixtape was originally going to be called *Villematic*.
